Brand new promotional art for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has surfaced online, teasing an explosive climax between Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta.
Information about Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has been kept close to the chest by Warner Bros. and DC. According to rumors, the reason not so much as a teaser poster has leaked is that DC Studios is worried about the quality of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman sequel. After a long drought of information, new promotional art has been released showing Arthur Curry facing off against Black Manta in front of an erupting volcano:
It seems as though Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is set to have an apocalyptic climax if that art is to be believed. Jason Momoa has stressed the environmental message of the Aquaman sequel, so a literal natural disaster during his fight against Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta is one way to get across the dire nature of climate change. Though only time will tell if The Lost Kingdom will be a disaster itself, or a return to triumph for DC.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
