Warner Bros. and DC’s Aquaman has already broken box office records before its U.S. debut.

Aquaman first got its headstart at the holiday box office by opening in China on December 7th. After smashing records there, it has continued to make a massive dent in the box office this weekend and it hasn’t even opened in U.S. theaters yet. According to The Hollywood ReporterAquaman opened in an additional 42 markets this weekend and brought in $126.4 million at the box office.

This brings the film’s total box office haul thus far to $261.3 million, with $189.2 million of that coming from China. DC’s latest superhero film has broken multiple records in China and despite opening during a crowded weekend in the U.S., it’s still expected to bring in over $100 million during the five-day Christmas weekend, a feat that  Justice League failed to accomplish when it opened in November of last year.

This time of the year, for the past few years, has been mainly dominated by Star Wars films. Given that the next film in the franchise doesn’t open until next December, this has given many other franchise tentpoles the chance to make a splash at the box office this holiday season. When Aquaman opens in the U.S., it will debut against big franchise films such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Bumblebee, and Mary Poppins Returns.
