‘Aquaman’ Director James Wan On Why He Chose Ludi Lin To Play Murk

Aquaman Director James Wan recently explained why he chose Chinese-Canadian actor and model Ludi Lin to play the Atlantean Murk.

In a recent interview with Filipino YouTuber Chris Cantada, Wan told him that he wanted a strong Asian character with the potential of having his own story displayed in a movie or TV:

“Well I mean I, having talked with Ludi while I was in the casting process I realized how smart this guy was. Ludi is actually a very cerebral person. He’s very philosophical, and so when I got talking to him I really loved his personality a lot, and even though the movie has a lot of actors that are already in place, I really wanted a sort of strong Asian character in there that might potentially have his own story down the line and so casting someone like Ludi was very important.”

It would seem that Warner Bros. and DC are looking into potentially expanding the stories of the most successful characters of their franchises. In DC comic books, Murk is the leader of the Men-of-War, the front-line of the army of Atlantis and loyal to the royal family, seemingly opening a space for Lin in future Aquaman or Justice League related products. Lin has already shown his ability as an actor in the most recent Power Rangers reboot as the Black Ranger.

We’ll have to wait and see the impact of each Aquaman character after the movie comes out later this December. The film is currently at 76% on Rotten Tomatoes with 87 reviews, at the moment.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an acition-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman will be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.
