‘Aquaman’ Star Explains Why He Owes Everything To Zack Snyder

Aquaman star Jason Momoa is very thankful for Justice League director Zack Snyder and his DC Extended Universe legacy.

2017’s Justice League infamously had some post-production controversy that included director Zack Snyder walking away from the film before it was completed. Ultimately, much of his vision was lost in the final product, causing many fans to start the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement that is still going strong over a year after the film’s release.

In a recent interview with Toronto Sun, Momoa opened up about how he owes everything to Snyder. Momoa also noted how important Snyder was in shaping many of the characters in the DC Extended Universe, including the titular underwater  DC hero seen in Aquaman. This is what the actor had to say when asked if Snyder had his character’s story arc planned out before walking away.

“He had it all planned out. He had the plan for Justice League. I really do believe that Cyborg and Wonder Woman, and all that has been shaped, is because of Zack. I’m definitely here and owe everything to that man because I wouldn’t have been cast if not for him.

I think it was a genius idea to go in this direction with this character, and it’s been an honor. I’ve had people from all over the world — people from Argentina, people from Columbia, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico, just all over, telling me: “How crazy and cool is this to have a brown-skinned superhero?””

Aquaman hits U.S. theaters in one week but it’s already been smashing records in China. The film opened in China two weeks ahead of its U.S. debut and it seems to have paid off pretty well so far. Some lucky fans in the U.S. will be attending special Aquaman screenings exclusively for Amazon Prime members tonight, so be wary of spoilers on social media.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Aquaman as soon as more information becomes available. Would you like to see Zack Snyder return to the DCEU? If so, what film, besides Justice League 2, would you like to see him direct? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
