Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Blunt Reason Why He’s Not In ‘The Predator’

Arnold Schwarzenegger explained to an interviewer that he turned down a role in Shane Black's The Predator because he didn't feel interested in the role.

Arnold Schwarzenegger recently said that he’d have no problems returning to either the Terminator franchise or the realm of superhero movies, but there’s one project that he doesn’t plan on getting involved with – Shane Black’s The Predator.

The short reason why Schwarzenegger is not planning on returning to the Predator franchise is because he wasn’t exactly sold on the concept. His wording suggests that it mostly has to do with whatever role his character would have played, although it’s not clear if he would have reprised his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schafer or if he’d be playing a new character altogether.

Nick Schager: My all-time favorite film of yours is Predator, and Shane Black is now rebooting the franchise with The Predator. Are you involved with it in any way?

Arnold Schwarzenegger: They asked me, and I read it, and I didn’t like it — whatever they offered. So I’m not going to do that, no. Except if there’s a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role. But the way it is now, no, I won’t do that.

Schwarzenegger was quick to clarify that he wasn’t interested in his role and not so much the movie itself. Considering that Predator fans have been rather on-the-fence about the project, and the nature of the news can be interpreted either way, it seems like Fox is going to have to figure out the right way to market this movie to win everyone over.
