Members of ‘Shazam!’ Family Come Together For Asher Angel’s Birthday

Shazam Asher Angel Birthday DC Jack Dylan Grazer Batman

One of the more important ongoing elements in comic book lore with the Shazam! family is the importance of family. The Shazamily, if you will. And while the bulk of what we saw in the trailer involved the transformation of young Billy Batson into, well, superhero Billy Batson, there’ll no doubt be some time devoted to young Billy’s upbringing with his new family. Off-screen, though, in interviews, we’ve seen a fair amount of camaraderie among the cast, and now some of them came together to help star Asher Angel celebrate his big day.

See, Asher Angel, who will portray young Billy Batson in Shazam! next year, just celebrated his 16th birthday, and with some help from Nintendo, the Billy Batson actor celebrated his 16th birthday in the best way possible and was joined by fellow Disney and Shazam! co-stars, such as Jenna Ortega, Peyton Elizabeth Lee- once rumored to play Cassandra Cain in Birds of Prey– Jovan Armand, who plays Pedro Peña in the film, Faithe Herman, who will play Darla, and Grace Fulton, who will play Mary Marvel.

In a tweet sent out yesterday from his handle, Asher Angel sent out the following message: “#ad “Super” is an understatement! Thanks @Nintendo for helping me celebrate my birthday with #SuperMarioParty!” While the cast plays Super Mario Party on a Nintendo Switch. Should’ve been Mario Odyssey, but I know, it’s not a multiplayer game. Anyway, check out the Shazam! cast celebrating Angel’s birthday in the tweet below:

Given how much superhero…heroics, we saw in the trailer for Shazam!, do you have hopes or expectations that we see more of the family dynamic itself in subsequent teasers and trailers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.

The film will hit theaters next year on April 5, 2019.
