Shazam! star Zachary Levi recently gushed about becoming a full-fledged superhero in a new interview.

Some comic book fans around the world have dreamt about becoming a superhero since they were young kids and in some cases, they grow up to get the role. The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Andrew Garfield and Batman v Superman‘s Ben Affleck are just a couple of actors who have wanted to play the role for decades. Now, fans can add Shazam! star Zachary Levi to that list.

Levi played Fandral in both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok but many fans felt like the actor’s abilities weren’t fully realized in such a small role. It seems that he feels the same because now he has gone from having no lines in Ragnarok to playing the titular hero in DC’s Shazam!, which hits theaters next year. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Levi excitedly talked about a particular moment during filming that made him feel like a “bona fide superhero”. Check out what Levi had to say below.

“There’s a lot of these moments in the movie, you know, they would take like six hours to shoot because we like had a bunch of different cameras on this lighting but you know it was just like ‘Shazam stands and looks’, you know, this moment.

There’s a couple of those moments. There was one where it was like this mist and fog and I’m standing up like this big strong heroic pose and the light from my chest was like shining through the mist and it felt really cool in the moment and then I went back and watched it in the monitors and was like “Holy crap, I’m a bone fide superhero and I want to look like this the whole time.'”

Though many fans may be disappointed that Levi never got his time to shine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the trailer for Shazam! has garnered plenty of love from fans since it premiered at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Much like Ryan Reynolds went from Green Lantern to Deadpool, or Michael B Jordan from Fantastic Four to Black Panther, Levi could deliver an iconic performance fitting for the beloved DC character.

Check out the full interview below, the moment quoted above begins at around the 1-minute 15-second mark. Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana. Here’s the official synopsis:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
