‘Shazam!’ Director Jokes About Marvel References Being Added To Reshoots

Shazam-MarvelShazam! director David F. Sandberg recently took to Twitter to humorously comment on the film’s upcoming reshoots and it involved Marvel.

The term “Reshoots” seems to almost be a curse word when associated with such big films like those of Marvel and DC. In recent years, there have been some very infamously reshot films that didn’t turn out too well but it’s certainly not a new technique for the industry. DC films like Suicide Squad and Justice League became infamous for their post-production changes and now that Shazam! is preparing to do some reshoots, it has some fans very worried.

One fan took to Twitter to ask Sandberg about the reshoots, specifically whether or not they would be to remove references to the previous heroes of the DC Extended Universe, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill). The rumors that both actors would no longer be part of the DCEU have run rampant for months but have yet to be officially confirmed by either party. Check out Sandberg’s hilarious response via the Twitter post below.

Obviously, Sandberg is most likely joking about the Marvel references but given Shazam’s origins, some Marvel references could be warranted. The original incarnation of Shazam was named Captain Marvel, long before Marvel had their own Captain MarvelThe character has since evolved into the hero you’ll be seeing on the big screen in a few months, but references to his old name would be a treat for fans of the iconic DC hero.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Shazam! as soon as more information becomes available. What are your thoughts on reshoots in general? In your opinion, what are some of the best and worst examples of a film going through major reshoots? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana. Here’s the official synopsis:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
