A new na'vi?

Fans had to wait nearly a decade for their first look at Avatar: The Way of the Water. Luckily, one of the producers for Avatar 3 has given fans a small taste of the sequel to hold them over until its release during the 2025 holiday season.

The Avatar series is infamous for having long gaps between releases. While three years isn’t as long as the monstrous 13 between the first film and The Way of the Water, it’s still a ways away. As post-production on the film begins in earnest, producer Jon Landau shares a glimpse of Jake Sully in the upcoming film, along with a mystery na’vi by his side:

It’s possible this character is a part of the fire tribe which is said to be involved in Avatar 3. Regardless of who they are, it’s clear James Cameron and Jon Landau are putting as much care into the sequel as they did with Way of the Water, likely meaning another Oscar win is on the horizon for the franchise.

The cast and storyline of the Avatar sequel

Directed by James Cameron from a script he co-wrote with Josh Friedman, The Way of Water stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Winslet.

Disney’s Avatar: The Way of Water synopsis reads as follows: “Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
