Vin Diesel won’t appear in the Avatar sequels, according to producer Jon Landau.
As Avatar: The Way of Water continues dominating box office charts across the globe, Jon Landau has shut down rumors claiming that Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel is set to appear in the next installments of the science-fiction series. The rumors started after Diesel posted an Instagram video with Avatar creator James Cameron.
“Vin was a fan,” Jon Landau told Empire Magazine. “He came in, visited the set one day to see what we were doing and people took that out of context.”
Avatar: The Way of Water has so far earned $1.928 billion at the worldwide box office, a figure that makes it the sixth-highest grossing release of all-time. The movie is expected to cross the $2 billion mark in the coming weeks.
The first Avatar movie remains the highest-grossing release in history with $2.923 billion. The movie was at one-point dethroned by the Marvel Studios feature Avengers: Endgame before a re-release put it back on top of the all-time box office charts.
The Way of Water is rated PG-13 and runs for 3 hours and 12 minutes, making it about 30 minutes longer than the first entry in the Avatar series. The sequel is a hit with critics, as it holds a certified fresh ratting on the review aggregation platform Rotten Tomatoes. Its budget is somewhere between $350 million to $400 million.
