The first trailer for the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series has finally been released. Has Netflix found another hit in its latest adaptation?

Fans have been tentatively excited about the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. After Netflix proved its mettle with a One Piece adaptation, many thought bringing this series to market would be a piece of cake. While it’s too early to tell, the official trailer for Avatar: The Last Airbender suggests a wild and beautiful adaptation of one of this generation’s most beloved childhood shows.

Albert Kim leads the project as the showrunner and executive producer, steering the ship with a vision that aims to encapsulate the original’s spirit while offering something fresh to the audience. He’s backed by a talented team, including directors Jabbar Raisani and Michael Goi, and co-executive producer and director Roseanne Liang. The series follows Aang, the last Airbender, on his journey to become the Avatar, the world’s only hope to restore peace and balance amidst the chaos sown by the Fire Nation.

What is Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender about?

Netflix has both hits and misses in the arena of live-action adaptations. The recent well-received adaptation of One Piece gives hope, but with Avatar: The Last Airbender, the stakes are undoubtedly high. The iconic status of the original animated series, beloved by millions worldwide, sets a precedent, making this upcoming project one of Netflix’s most scrutinized ventures.

The series also includes Amber Midthunder as Princess Yue, Utkarsh Ambudkar as King Bumi, and Arden Cho as June. James Sie will be bringing his role from the animated series, the Cabbage Merchant, into the live-action adaptation.

Netflix’s adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender will premiere on February 22, 2024.
