Reddit user Neirdark has shared a new Avengers 4 theory suggesting the true power of the Time Stone has yet to be revealed.
The theory points out that those who successfully used the power of an Infinity Stone in previous Marvel Studios films did do through the use of a device, noting that Loki controlled people while using the Mind Stone with his staff, Rona wielded the Power Stone using a hammer, and Thanos harnessed the power of all six gems with the Infinity Gauntlet. On the other hand, those who attempted to use the stones without a device suffered devastating consequences, referring to Red Skull being banished to Vormir as the most prominent example.
With this evidence and set photos suggesting Avengers 4 will involve time travel, the Reddit user proposes that the consequences of using the Time Stone without a device have yet to be revealed. Introduced in Doctor Strange, the Time Stone has only been used while it was contained in the Eye of Agamotto or the Infinity Gauntlet so far and the theory suggests that using it without a device will send the user through time or trap them in a time loop within the quantum realm.
