‘Avengers’ Star Chris Hemsworth Almost Quit Acting Before Becoming Thor

NASA Avengers Endgame Chris Hemsworth Thor MarvelIt seems that we were close to losing Avengers star Chris Hemsworth before he ever landed the role of Thor.

During a recent interview with Men’s Health, the Avengers star revealed that he almost quit acting before he was cast in 2011’s Thor. Up until that point, Chris Hemsworth was perhaps best known in a small but critical role in the 2009 Star Trek reboot. After, however, his roles seemed to dry up. He talked about how he thought this might be the end:

I was about to quit. I always wanted to act, and one of the first things I wanted to do when I got any money was pay my parents’ house off. I’d asked Dad once when he thought he’d pay it off and he said, “Honestly, probably never.” Most people are in that boat and I wanted to change that. So I was super active with auditions. Then in that eight-month period, I got more and more anxious, to the point where I couldn’t harness that energy. I was trying to convince myself I wasn’t nervous before auditions rather than grabbing hold of it and going, [deep intake of breath] “Use it, raise up your awareness here, sharpen your focus.”And then my mentality changed, which came from being at a point where I was like, “I’m going to go back to Australia.”

He then revealed that it was his drive to pay off his parents’ house that got him through the next few auditions and ultimately led to his roles in The Cabin in the Woods and Red Dawn and eventually Thor:

I had one more audition where I was like, “Do this for his house. Think about reasons other than yourself.” That was for The Cabin in the Woods, and I got that job, and from there I got Red Dawn. And then I got Thor.

From the sound of things, we almost lost a great star before he ever had a chance to shine. It just goes to show that sometimes persistence, hard work and the right motivation can sometimes make a career work.
