Does Avengers: Doomsday even have a finished script? Rebecca Romjin gives new insight on the status of the MCU’s biggest crossover yet.
One of the biggest issues fans have had with the MCU is the so-called “Marvel Method”. Inspired by the comic creation process of the same name, the “Marvel Method” involves beginning pre-production, and often times production, on a project without a finished script. This has left quite a few films in recent years feeling rather sloppy, with many hoping that Avengers: Doomsday won’t fall into the same trap.
Though, as the rumor mill does, reports began to circulate that the script for Avengers: Doomsday was still unfinished- even now months into the filming process. While a number of reasons for this have come out, such as the project not having all of the actors they want signed on for their roles, it has caused the internet to worry that the crossover will succumb to the shortcomings of many post-Endgame films in the MCU.
Is The Avengers: Doomsday Script Finished?
However, despite how many reports there were, there has been no official word on the status of the Avengers: Doomsday script. That is, until now. Rebecca Romjin, who is set to reprise her role as Mystique in the film, was asked if she had finished filming all of her scenes in the MCU’s upcoming film. Romjin admitted she doesn’t know, confirming that the script hasn’t been finalized.
“[I’m] not quite sure,” Romjin told The Hollywood Reporter. “The script hasn’t — they haven’t finished writing it. It’s been very, very fun, and we don’t know yet. They keep everything very close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps.”
While many may see this as odd, the Marvel Method has allowed MCU films to adapt very late into development. Perhaps the most famous example is the last-minute inclusion of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, a decision that would go on to change the franchise for the next decade. So while some fans may worry, there isn’t just doom and gloom surrounding the fact that the script isn’t finished.
