Doctor Doom faces the music!

Doctor Doom is the FACE of Avengers: Doomsday (literally!) A rumor reveals new details on the villain’s origin and potential unmasking.

There have been a lot of conflicting reports to come out of the rumor mill when it comes to Doctor Doom’s origin in Avengers: Doomsday. A picture seems to be painted of a man scorned by incursions caused by a key Marvel Cinematic Universe hero. However, this origin doesn’t explain how he came to rule Latveria, why he donned the mask, or why his face is scarred (if it even is!)

A rumor from Charles Murphy at Murphy’s Multiverse seems to give fans some insight into what direction Avengers: Doomsday will be taking the iconic hero. Starting with the mask, it seems as though the audience will see a brief shot of the character’s face, likely during his origin scene. However, that information will be kept from the heroes of the franchise.

“As has been shared by 30 scoopers already, none of the 616 heroes will see Doom’s face, though the audience will, allowing them to have some critical information that should create some suspense & sounds like the Russos have used it cleverly.”

Doctor Doom’s Origin In Avengers: Doomsday

Though perhaps more interesting than the unmasking is which fans will actually be seeing. Charles Murphy made another post clarifying that the Doctor Doom fans see in Avengers: Doomsday will, in fact, be a variant of Victor Von Doom. In fact, the rumor states that the film doesn’t explain why he has the face of Tony Stark (at least, as far as the scooper knows).

“It sounds as though he is Victor Von Doom from Latveria, not Tony Stark…but there’s still Secret Wars left for them to explain it all because no explanation is given in Doomsday…as 30 scoopers have apparently already shared.”

An interesting picture is being painted if this rumor is true. It seems as though the Russo Brothers plan for Avengers: Doomsday to lay the foundation of Doctor Doom as a character, with his position in the broader multiverse expanded on in Secret Wars. This would explain why no explanation is given for him having Tony Stark’s face, as it’s a check they plan to cash in down the line.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
