Will fans be seeing a new Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Doomsday? The latest rumor suggests that the fan-favorite hero will return, just not how fans may think.
There’s been a lot of questions about what role the Scarlet Witch will play in Avengers: Doomsday. While the character has become one of the faces of the MCU in recent years, she’s currently not confirmed to return in the film. And, given the nature of her last appearance, fans are struggling to square how the heroine will be both alive and a good guy by the time the next film rolls around.
A handful of leads have surfaced suggesting how the character may play into Avengers: Doomsday. Perhaps the most pervasive was a comic focusing on the TVA which showed a version of the Scarlet Witch kept in stasis. Many believe that this could tie in to how the character survived her last appearance in Multiverse of Madness, and her potential rehabilitation alongside Loki.
Scarlet Witch’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday
However, a new rumor from Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus suggests that the Scarlet Witch will return…just not the one fans know and love. The scooper teases that a core aspect of the character’s story in Avengers: Doomsday will be her relationship with Magneto, with the characters both originating from an alternate reality where mutants rule.
“[This] is a universe where Magneto is finally ruling Genosha as he had always pictured it; and we’d have like a “royal family” type of situation with Erik, Pietro, Wanda, and Polaris.
“This is an idea that has been pushed since Multiverse of Madness, and then Deadpool and Wolverine, but it never feels like the right fit because it feels like it takes away from the overall plot. However, the main point they would like to explore with Wanda is the father-daughter relationship with Erik.”
This rumor does actually make sense with the current direction of the MCU. Marvel likely wants Scarlet Witch to return in a big way when it comes time for the Mutant Saga. However, it’s impossible to reconcile her MCU origin with her comic origin. By introducing a new version of the hero in Avengers: Doomsday, fans will be able to have their cake and eat it too.
