Is Avengers: Doomsday in major trouble? A new rumor suggests Marvel’s Kevin Feige may be guiding the Russo Brothers more than some fans may expect.
One of the most beautiful things about the MCU is that, while producers like Kevin Feige oversee the larger canon and continuity, each individual story is crafted by the cast and the crew making it. This is something the universe has leaned more heavily into in the past few years, which is why many have concerns over Avengers: Doomsday. There’s a lot of balls to juggle and threads to tie up. And, given the Russo Brothers’ recent history with blockbusters, some are unsure they can pull this tightrope act off in a satisfying manner.
Kevin Feige is seemingly one of those people. A new rumor from Hollywood insider DanielRPK suggests that the MCU mastermind is keeping a close eye on Avengers: Doomsday thanks to the Russo Brothers’ recent string of flops like The Gray Man and The Electric State, the latter of which had a monstrous $320 million budget and has gone down as one of the worst films to ever come from a major streamer like Netflix. However, with how far into development the project is, it simply isn’t feasible to dismiss the directing duo from their posts.
“Kevin Feige has concerns about the Russos directing the next two Avengers films,” according to Richtman. “However, at this stage replacing them isn’t an option, so he plans to closely oversee the projects, ensuring the script is just right and everything stays on track. He’s going to be way more hands-on than ever with them.”
How Much Will Avengers: Doomsday Cost?
Currently, there’s no public budget for Avengers: Doomsday. However, it’s likely to be one of the most expensive in the MCU’s history. The Russo Brothers have a history of working with some of the biggest budgets around, for better or worse. Robert Downey Jr. alone is set to add a $50 million line item for each film, not counting backend points and additional amenities that he secured in his original contract negotiations with Kevin Feige.
This budget isn’t the only concern. The Russo Brothers are set to start filming Avengers: Doomsday next month. This may seem fine until one realizes that the film is slated to come out next May. This meant that, if there were any issues with production, Kevin Feige isn’t going to have much time to right the ship which might be the MCU’s last hope. And, if he does, it’ll likely mean inflating the budget even bigger for the rushed work from VFX artists, cast, and crew.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in May 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
