The MCU is making some major changes to Doctor Doom! The villain’s iconic origin is seemingly getting a rework in Avengers: Doomsday thanks to a new rumor.
Fans have a lot of worries when it comes to the role Doctor Doom will play in Avengers: Doomsday. Does that mean he won’t be a villain in any other MCU property going forward? How will they tackle his controversial origin? Is the character seen on-screen even Victor Von Doom? While the rumor mill has been more than happy to fill in some gaps, there’s still plenty of questions left unanswered.
Though, to some fans, a rumor about Doctor Doom’s new origin in the MCU may have been better left unknown. The latest scoop from MyTimeToShineHello reveals that Avengers: Doomsday will be doing a complete overhaul of the character’s origin, with it now focusing on how incursions killed his family rather than the nuanced narcissism of the comics.
“If I understand correctly, Steve going back in time to be with Peggy created the incursions that killed Doctor Doom’s family. Now Doom is hunting Steve to kill him for what he did, manipulating everyone in his path to achieve it.”
Doctor Doom’s MCU Origin
If this rumor is true, the MCU is making a large departure from Doctor Doom’s original origin in Avengers: Doomsday. In the comics, Doctor Doom grew up in a Romani camp outside of the capital of Latveria. He lost his mother to a deal with Mephisto and his father to the harsh weather, leading to him seeking to master both science and magic to reclaim his mother’s soul.
In truth, this rumor sounds very similar to Iron Man’s origin in the MCU. It’s possible that Avengers: Doomsday will, in fact, make the version of Doctor Doom in the film a variant of Tony Stark. This would explain how and why Robert Downey Jr. is playing the character, despite almost everyone online seeming to agree that it’s a bad idea.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
