Does Doctor Doom have a twist up his sleeve? A rumor for Avengers: Doomsday may have just spoiled one of the biggest revelations about the movie.
The rumor mill has been pretty thorough with its breakdowns of Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. If all the reports are true (Which, truthfully, they likely aren’t), fans are going to go into the project knowing the character’s motivations, costumes, biggest fights, and even the faceless army he’ll use. It wouldn’t be shocking if there’s a rumor out there about his blood type!
However, it seems as though there’s one twist that has been hidden from the rumor mill. At least…hidden for a while. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently revealed that Doctor Doom will be different from past Avengers villains in one key way: he’ll actually be working with the heroes for most of Avengers: Doomsday!
“The difference between Doomsday and the other Avengers films is that Doom is on the heroes’ side for much of it. Obviously, he’s only pretending – big surprise! But that does make it a bit different from the other films.”
Doctor Doom’s Facade In Avengers: Doomsday
This rumor actually isn’t anything new. Earlier this year, reports came out that Doctor Doom wouldn’t OPENLY be Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Rather, the character would appear as an Iron Man variant with a group of Avengers claiming to be heroes. Only, of course, to turn out to be villains near the film’s climax.
This raises the question of why Marvel Studios ever confirmed Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in the first place. The San Diego Comic-Con announcement would’ve been equally as impactful if he were ONLY confirmed as Iron Man. And, whether a Doctor Doom actor was never confirmed or if a decoy was used, the reveal that Downey was the true face of the villain would have been one of the craziest twists in cinematic history.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
