Is Steve Rogers on the run? The latest rumor for Avengers: Doomsday suggests that the iconic hero may be taking on a long-requested mantle.
There’s been quite a lot of questions surrounding Steve Rogers’ role in Avengers: Doomsday. For the most part, the rumor mill has focused on the WHY: why is he in the film, why is Doctor Doom after him, and why this final ride matters. However, the how of his appearance hasn’t been answered. Namely, how he’ll be a hero after passing on the torch of Captain America to Sam Wilson.
Many assume that there will simply be two (or more) Captain Americas in Avengers: Doomsday– with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson sharing the mantle. However, there may be a slightly more interesting explanation hiding in the film. A rumor from DanielRPK reveals that Steve Rogers will actually take on the identity of Nomad, one of the character’s most recurring mantles in the comics.
Who Is Nomad?
Nomad is an identity Steve Rogers has used multiple times throughout the comics, most often following him relinquishing the title of Captain America due to a disillusionment with the US government. While it’s not likely there’ll be much political commentary in Avengers: Doomsday, this rumor might mean he takes on the mantle as a wanderer without a home.
Given Steve Rogers was returning the infinity stones for an unknown amount of time after Avengers: Endgame, there’s more than ample room for Avengers: Doomsday to bring him in as a true Nomad. This rumor would also explain how Steve Rogers is young in the film despite last being seen as elderly- since he would be from an earlier part of the timestream.
