Is Robert Downey Jr. the perfect Doctor Doom? Simu Liu gives fans a tease of his experience working on Avengers: Doomsday with the MCU’s biggest actors.
To say that Avengers: Doomsday is laden with controversy is likely underselling it. The film was controversial the nanosecond it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be taking on the role of Doctor Doom. Things have already gotten worse in recent months, with reports of an unfinished script and actors filming on a greenscreen having many argue that the movie doesn’t even constitute an actual film.
However, it seems as though the process of making Avengers: Doomsday hasn’t been all horrible. Simu Liu, who is set to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in the upcoming film, recently spoke on his experiences working on the project. While he kept exact details vague, he did reveal that the production was like a dream come true.
“Every day feels like a dream,” Liu told The River (via ComicBookMovie.com). “I get to go to work and work with people I respect and admire. Some of them are actors I watched when I was little, even before I wanted to be an actor.”
“My emotions are a mix of great feelings and excitement, as well as fear and anxiety. I’m human, after all. I’m with some amazing people, so I do feel anxious at times. But everyone is so wonderful, and it doesn’t really feel like work every day.”
Robert Downey Jr’s Performance As Doctor Doom
Perhaps the biggest controversy to stem from Avengers: Doomsday is the reports of a massive blow-out between actors on set. The internet assumed that the rumor stemmed from an ego clash between Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Reynolds, despite the fact that the initial leaker debunked this claim. However, if one were to ask Simu Liu, he’d remark that Downey has been nothing short of incredible as Doctor Doom.
“He’s been an integral part of Marvel’s success and has been in so many films over the years, yet he still takes the time to meet and connect with so many people. Because he’s played such a diverse range of roles, I think everyone will be blown away by the way he tackles this new character in this film.”
While fans likely still won’t be sold on Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom until Avengers: Doomsday actually hits theaters, it’s good to hear that actors like Simu Liu are having a positive experience on the set of the production. Though given the script likely still isn’t finalized, it doesn’t seem he’ll be leaving set anytime soon!
