The X-Men are back and better than ever! The description for the newest Avengers: Doomsday trailer finally gives James Marsden the respect he deserves as Cyclops.
In many ways, James Marsden was the Charlie Brown of Fox’s X-Men franchise. While nominally the leading character of the team, it seemed the football was always getting yanked out from under him during the actual films. Ultimately, it was characters like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X who were seen as the defining characters of that saga.
Though fans have had some hope that history can be rewritten. Earlier this year, it was announced that a number of key actors from those old X-Men films would make their return for Avengers: Doomsday. Among those names was James Marsden. This led many hope that the film would finally give the dog his day to show people how cool Cyclops can truly be.
Cyclops Shocks Fans In Avengers: Doomsday
The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday to hit theaters puts the spotlight on the X-Men, with a particular focus on James Marsden’s Cyclops. While the trailer itself has yet to surface online, a description of the footage has found its way onto the net. And for anyone hoping Marsden would get his time to shine, this description was an absolute feast. (via demetherself)
“Opens with dark scenes inside the X-Mansion. The camera then pans to the metal plate that says Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. It moves slowly around the mansion until we see Xavier in the distance, seated in his chair.”
“His iconic chair then rolls into view. A King chess piece floats in the air, with Magneto blurred in the background. Erik and Charles reach out and hold hands. The camera lifts to reveal Charles wearing a blue jacket with a black and red X symbol. He is still holding Erik’s hand and smiling. It then pans to Erik, who smiles back.”
“Then it cuts to Cyclops removing his visor. His face is covered in black (mud or blood) as a blast of energy erupts from his eyes. A pair of massive metal legs (a Sentinel) move behind him. He is wearing the costume below without the trunks.”
Of course, the description also places the X-Men in quite a bind heading into Avengers: Doomsday. Many fans are worried that, even if Cyclops looks now, James Marsden will be reduced to a mere cameo. Though given the group did get their own trailer, it’s more likely than not he’ll play a sizeable role in the upcoming film.
