The Russo brothers have revisited their earlier comments that they would return to Marvel Studios’ Avengers franchise to direct a Secret Wars movie, confirming there are no plans currently in place.

Joe and Anthony Russo have previously directed the last two Captain America movies and the last two Avengers movies for Marvel Studios. The directors have recently reiterated earlier statements that they would return to Marvel to direct a movie based on the Secret Wars comics.

While this sparked excitement amongst fans hoping to see a Secret Wars movie helmed by the Russos, the directing duo have confirmed that no conversations have taken place between them and Marvel.

No Russo Bros At Comic-Con This Year

During a recent interview with MTV to promote their new film with Netflix, The Gray Man, the Russo brothers were asked whether they might be returning to the MCU for Secret Wars. The Avengers directors made it clear nothing official was in the works.

The two directors explained that they would be happy to return to Marvel and that they always name Secret Wars as the Marvel project they would most want to work on, because the comics were their childhood favorites.

However, the Russos also make it clear that no conversations have taken place between them and Marvel Studios and fans should not expect an announcement involving them at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Check out their comments in the video below:

While the Russo brothers may not be joining Marvel for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which starts later this week, MCU fans should still expect some big announcements from Marvel. Whether or not this will include details of the next Avengers movie is not yet clear, but Marvel’s return to Hall H will surely bring a host of surprises with it.

Here is the synopsis for the Russo brothers’ latest Marvel film, Avengers: Endgame:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming on Disney Plus through IMAX Enhanced presentation.
