Avengers: Endgame co-writer Christopher Markus explained why they didn’t include Tony Stark and Pepper Potts’ wedding in the Marvel Studios film.
When Avengers: Endgame jumped ahead into the future after our heroes learned there was no way to reverse Thanos’ decimation, audiences learned Tony Stark and Pepper finally got married at some point during the five-year gap and had a daughter named Morgan. Of course, considering the Tony Stark and Pepper Potts relationship has endured since the MCU launched with Iron Man, some fans were curious as to why the Avengers: Endgame filmmakers opted to have such a momentous wedding occur offscreen.
During an interview with Backstory Magazine, Avengers: Endgame co-writer Christopher Markus explained that they felt audiences didn’t need to see Tony Stark and Pepper Potts’ wedding. According to Markus, it was more important to focus on the Stark family dynamic and how the world was impacted by Thanos’ decimation:
“We wanted to see the long term effects. I don’t think anybody needed to see the proposal and the wedding and the pregnancy of Pepper Potts. What we want to see is that family unit as a functioning whole. I want to see the world depleted by the loss [of the snap]. The time jump allowed us to get to the meat of the matter pretty quickly. We couldn’t go any further, because then you get into a whole CG makeup situation where you’ve got to age people. Five years you can do just looking haggard.”
Do you think it was a wise decision to skip ahead to Tony Stark and Pepper Pott’s family life or would you have enjoyed seeing the wedding? Let us know in the comments!
