Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War was full of major surprises for fans of the entire 10-year run of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far. Perhaps one of the most exciting moments of fan service involves a surprise appearance from Red Skull (Ross Marquand) after his mysterious disappearance in Captain America: The First Avenger. Ross Marquand of The Walking Dead fame fulfilled the role as Red Skull in place of Hugo Weaving.
During a Q&A for the film following a special screening, the Russo Brothers confirmed to the packed audience that Weaving was asked to reprise his role as Red Skull before Marquand came in:
Hugo Weaving was asked to return to reprise Red Skull, that’s all the Russo Brothers would say. The Soul stone was the last stone in writing for them to come up with.

Hugo Weaving previously admitted that he was uninterested in returning to play Red Skull after his one appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger. Despite of this, it was still exciting for fans to see Red Skull revealed as the keeper of the Soul Stone on Vormir as he revealed to Thanos (Josh Brolin) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) that the only way to receive the stone is to sacrifice a soul that’s loved.

Thanos’ Outriders Resemble Venom In New ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Concept Art
New Avengers: Infinity War concept art reveals early designs for Thanos' Outriders and the horrifying creatures bear a striking resemblance to Venom.
During the battle of Wakanda, Thanos' underlings unleashed an army of the Outriders on Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Though the creatures were terrifying enough in the final version of the film, early concept art reveals that the Outriders initially resemble the Spider-Man villain turned anti-hero named Venom. According to Avengers: Infinity War concept artists, creating a design for Thanos' army that wouldn't be compared to Venom proved to be a challenge.
