James Gunn revealed whether or not Thor really understands Groot in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War found Rocket Raccoon and Groot joining Thor on a journey to Nidavellir to forge a weapon powerful enough to defeat Thanos. Along their journey, Rocket was surprised to learn that Thor was capable of understanding Groot, with the God of Thunder explaining that the language was an elective on Asgard.
Since the release of Avengers: Infinity War, fans have been wondering if Thor was serious about his comment on Groot’s language and James Gunn recently took to Twitter to shed some light on the matter. In a post on his official Twitter account, James Gunn explained that Thor was joking about the language being an elective and that he doesn’t have the same high bar for understanding Groot as the Guardians of the Galaxy on account of being a god of sorts.

Thor was making a joke, as he is prone to do, when he said Groot was an elective. Being a god of sorts he doesn’t have the same high bar for understanding Groot as the Guardians do. https://t.co/KG6GCqJZkX
