The project is being directed by Jonás Cuaron from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the writer behind the upcoming Blue Beetle movie featuring Xolo Maridueña. The film sees music superstar Bad Bunny taking on the role of El Muerto, a super-powered wrestler who made his comic book debut in the pages of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #6.

With the addition of Cala Hool, Sony is ramping up efforts to bring the characters of El Muerto to life on the big screen. Hool has an impressive resume, having previously worked on projects such as Netflix’s Narcos and Pixar’s Coco.
