Will Lex Luthor return?

Photos from the set of Batgirl have teased the return of a classic Batman villain and Lex Luthor’s mysterious whereabouts.

Leslie Grace’s Batgirl is set to completely marry Tim Burton’s Batman universe with the DC Extended Universe. Though Michael Keaton’s Batman will debut in The Flash, Batgirl will be the first time the cinematic universes will have fully melded together. And that fusion can be directly seen in a new set photo from the HBO Max film, which teases a classic Batman villain from the Tim Burton era.

A snapshot of a prop newspaper for The Gotham Globe has been released online. The “outlet” first appeared in the Tim Burton film and has now returned after being dormant for over three decades. The paper’s most prominent headline reveals that Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman is currently in Belle Reve prison. It should be noted that Lex Luthor’s name is misspelled as “Luther” on the paper.

Beyond Lex Luthor’s whereabouts, another headline reads “A Comeback For Cobblepot”. Danny Devito famously played The Penguin in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. Though the star has expressed interest in reprising his role, it remains to be seen if he’ll actually pop up in Batgirl. Perhaps The Penguin and Lex Luthor can team up together to form a new team of villains?

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script.

DC’s Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. JK Simmons also stars as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser will appear as the villain Firefly, and Michael Keaton is returning as his version of Batman.

Batgirl will hit HBO Max sometime this year. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on JK Simmons’ Commissioner Gordon in Batgirl, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
