Batman is officially joining Avengers: Secret Wars! Robert Pattinson has made his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after being cast as The Beyonder.
With the end of the MCU’s multiverse saga officially upon us, fans have become curious about what last-minute casting surprises may be in store for Avengers: Secret Wars. There’s been plenty of speculation about who could make an appearance, from Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider to Finn Jones’ Iron Fist. Some fans have even joked that Robert Pattinson’s Batman could even make an appearance in the film!
However, sometimes fiction is wilder than fact. Robert Pattinson has joined the cast of Avengers: Secret Wars. Not as Batman, though. Rather, he’ll be playing The Beyonder in the MCU, finally answering the question of what lies beyond Doctor Doom in the Multiverse saga. It also lies to rest recent reports that Pattinson had met with Marvel Studios for an (at the time) undisclosed role.
Is Robert Pattinson Joining The MCU?
Some fans may be shocked that Robert Pattinson was chosen to play The Beyonder in the MCU. The actor is most known for his dark and brooding roles, which the villain is very much not. However, there’s a very simple explanation. According to an individual with knowledge of the project, the team picked the Batman actor for one key reason.
“The other night I was watching Mickey 17 and saw that Robert Pattinson was willing to play a character that would sacrifice everything for a second chance,” the source explained. “I thought, if anyone is going to sacrifice their career to play The Beyonder, it’s going to be this guy.”
This casting does open some interesting possibilities for Avengers: Secret Wars. Given almost every spectacle has already been pulled in the MCU, what greater shock would there be if Batman himself showed up with the face of The Beyonder? It’ll be interesting to see how Robert Pattinson plays the iconic villain and if his character (plus his career) can survive the film!
