Batman Actor Michael Keaton Breaks Silence On Cancelled ‘Batgirl’ Film

Does Michael Keaton lose sleep over Batgirl?

Is Michael Keaton still torn up over Batgirl? The Batman actor gives his thoughts on the ill-fated DC film cancelled for a tax write-off.

Batgirl was shaping up to be something truly special. Fresh off Michael Keaton’s beloved return as Batman in the controversial The Flash movie, the film was set to bring Barbara Gordon to the big screen joined by Oscar winner Brendan Fraser and rising directing juggernauts Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. It truly seemed like DC was finally back on top.

That is, until Batgirl became the first of many dominos to fall in the world of tax write-offs. The film was scrapped, with Michael Keaton’s return as Batman locked away forever behind a wall of corporate mergers and priority shuffling at DC Studios, leaving many to wonder what could have been if the movie ever saw the light of day.

Michael Keaton Speaks On Batgirl Cancellation

Most of the cast and crew of Batgirl have already done their tours mourning the DC film and hoping for its release. However, it seems Michael Keaton doesn’t have much to say about the project. When asked about the cancelled film, the Batman actor remarked that he didn’t care since he already got paid for his return, but still feels bad for Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

“No, I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check,” Keaton explained to GQ in a recent talk. “I like [Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah]. They’re nice guys. I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I’m good.”

While it’s a shame that Michael Keaton won’t be picketing outside of Warner Bros. to try to get Batgirl released, it’s good that the actor doesn’t have any regrets about what may have been his final chance to return as Batman sitting on the shelf. With the new direction DC is headed, it’s not likely the film will be released anytime soon, leaving it as one of the great “What ifs” of the franchise alongside Justice League: Mortal.
