The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin and Seth Rogen are joining forces to adapt the horror comic Memetic.
Lionsgate is in final negotiations to pick up the rights to writer James Tynion IV’s horror comic Memetic. Seth Rogen will produce the film adaptation of Memetic with partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver through their Point Grey banner alongside Boom! Studios’ Ross Richie and Stephen Christy.
Mattson Tomlin, who co-wrote the script for The Batman with director Matt Reeves, will pen the screenplay for the Memetic adaptation. The feature film adaptation of Memetic is the second comic book project The Batman co-writer and Seth Rogen are partnering on, with the duo having recently teamed up with Shazam! director David F. Sandberg to adapt Fear Agent for Amazon.
In addition to penning the script for The Batman, Mattson Tomlin’s screenwriting credits include the upcoming film Little Fish. Meanwhile, Seth Rogen will continue to adapt the comic book series The Boys for Amazon.
The Memetic adaptation will be based on the Boom! comic of the same name, which tells the story of a killer meme known as the Good Time Sloth. After the meme becomes a viral sensation, people ranging from the average person to the President of the United States suddenly find themselves succumbing to a murderous rage. The Memetic comic follows a young and color-blind man who seeks to find his boyfriend while navigating the post-apocalyptic society.
Joining Seth Rogen and The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin is Josh Fagan, who will shepherd the project for Point Grey, and Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien, who will oversee for Lionsgate. Boom!’s Adam Yoelin will also serve as an executive producer
