Deathstroke Will Be The Villain In Ben Affleck’s Batman Movie

Deathstroke

Earlier this morning, Ben Affleck took to social media to share a cryptic video, featuring Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke abroad the Flying Fox. The actor is currently filming Justice League in London, so many fans assumed that the character will be appearing in the movie. However, it looks like the test footage was actually for another project.

The Wrap has revealed that Deathstroke will be the main antagonist in Ben Affleck’s Batman movie. We don’t know who will be playing him or how he’ll factor into the story of the movie, but it’s safe to say that it’s going to be a while before we learn more details about those things. After all, the movie doesn’t even have an official release date yet.

Affleck has been writing the script of his solo Batman movie alongside Geoff Johns for the past year, but details about the project have so far been extremely scarce. The movie is rumored to feature a large ensemble of iconic Batman villains, so there’s a chance that Deathstroke will not be the only bad guy in the movie.

What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to seeing the Caped Crusader going toe-to-toe with Deathstroke? Be sure to sound-off your thoughts in the comment section.

Is it too soon to hope for Son of Batman?

    • Maximillian Pegasus

NOOOOO, MEDIOCRE, go read some comics man.

  • DeVaughn Lee Brown

    Not confirmed? At all?

    • G-Man

It is confirmed. When a trade (like The Wrap, THR, Variety, or Deadline) reports something, that thing is true. So this, since The Wrap reported it, is true aka confirmed.

      • SAMURAI36

I wouldn’t go that far. But I will say that there is very well some truth to it.

  • Marquis de Sade

Just make the fight scenes brutal, dceu, and then mayhap, (just mayhap) you’ll earn the one thing that has long eluded you: MY APPROVAL!

    • JNAZ

Well if there was one thing that was universally loved about the BvS movie it was the Batman warehouse fight scene.. so i’m pretty confident there’ll be more of the same in the batman movie.

      • Carl

I had problems with that scene. First, Batman kills several of them. Second, he is way too strong. Third, he seemed invulnerable. Lastly, we saw most of it in the trailer. It was the only good action scene in BvS though.

        • SAMURAI36

First, Batman kills several of them.

Batman didn’t kill a single person in that scene.

Second, he is way too strong.

You are aware that Batman can benchpress 1000+lbs, yes?

          Third, he seemed invulnerable.

Good thing he had Alfred updating his armor at the beginning of the film, huh?

It’s funny hearing you try to scrutinize these films, when it’s clear that you barely even watched them.

Lastly, we saw most of it in the trailer.

So what? How is that a flaw in the scene itself?

          • Carl

Yeah those guys he batted the grenade back at are perfectly fine… how about the Russian guy?

I’m aware that in BS comic word he can bench 1000 lbs but that makes no sense in the real world. He’d have to be the size of tree and would be incredibly slow. In the setting of a realistic world, that level of strength and speed requires super powers to be believable.

Yeah it’s so much fun watching a bullet proof Batman beat up enemies that have zero chance of stopping him, creating no tension.

The flaw in having seen nearly all of it in the trailer is that it wasn’t a surprise at all. Also considering how far into the movie it was it felt like I was just waiting for it the whole time. Then when I got it, it was barely much more than what I already saw.

          • SAMURAI36

Yeah those guys he batted the grenade back at are perfectly fine…

That had nothing to do with Batman.

            how about the Russian guy?

You mean, the guy that goes on to become KGBeast? I thought you said you read comic books?

I’m aware that in BS comic word he can bench 1000 lbs but that makes no sense in the real world.

Ah yes, the “real world”. Because that’s what we’re talking about here. Because as I’m typing this, I just saw an alien fly by my window with a cape. And a Goddess with a sword. About as real as it gets.

He’d have to be the size of tree and would be incredibly slow.

He was the size of a tree in the movie. As far as being slow, tell that to The Rock. Or Brock Lesnar. Guys who have 2ft verticals, and can run 4-4’s.

As usual, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

In the setting of a realistic world, that level of strength and speed requires super powers to be believable.

When’s the last time you’ve actually worked out, Carl?

Yeah it’s so much fun watching a bullet proof Batman beat up enemies that have zero chance of stopping him, creating no tension.

Ah, yes, how boring it was to see the greatest superhero of all time, do precisely what it is that makes him the greatest superhero of all time.

The flaw in having seen nearly all of it in the trailer is that it wasn’t a surprise at all. Also considering how far into the movie it was it felt like I was just waiting for it the whole time. Then when I got it, it was barely much more than what I already saw.

That’s not the scene’s flaw, genius. If you wanna blame WB for showing too much of that scene, then you’d be well within your rights to do so.

          • Carl

How does batting a grenade back at enemies not have anything to do with the guy who batted the grenade back at them?

Yeah the guy in the comics who is KG Beast is now dead in the DCEU.

Do you not prop up the DCEU as being the gritty realistic superhero universe? Yes, I expect a level of realism in a setting that is the real world with some fantastical elements added. Superman and Wonder Woman have a reason for their abilities, Batman does not have a reason to be so strong.

Did the tire have a weight listed on it? Doesn’t matter anyway Batman does things he can’t in BvS. Remember when he was hiding in the corner of the walls and someone then crawled along the ceiling from there?

Why are you such an ignorant jerk? I’ve worked out plenty in my life so yeah I know how impossible those feats of strength are.

I didn’t know that Batman was considered the greatest hero for being bulletproof… here I thought it was his detective skills, intelligence, gadgets and fighting skills… lol

Sure it’s WB’s fault for showing the scene in the trailer but now I find that to be a flaw for the movie because the scene lost impact for me. I say that because of how late in the movie it is and how sparse the action is. They gave as such a lengthy look at the best action scene in the movie making me expect more from the film.

          • SAMURAI36

How does batting a grenade back at enemies not have anything to do with the guy who batted the grenade back at them?

LMAO, That’s not what happened, Carl. You continue to prove that you don’ really watch these movies, even though you’re the first in line to critique them. It’s funny, that for someone who claimed he couldn’t wait to see that one scene, you can’t even recollect what actually happened in it.

But the issue here (yeah, I’m not letting you off the hook, Carla) is that you initially said Batman killed “several guys”.

Who else in that scene did he kill?

Yeah the guy in the comics who is KG Beast is now dead in the DCEU.

            1) Prove that he’s dead.

            2) Speaking of proving, you continue to prove that you don’t read comics.

I’m not gonna explain this stuff to you. It’s more fun to laugh at you, as you proudly wallow in your own ignorance.

Do you not prop up the DCEU as being the gritty realistic superhero universe? Yes, I expect a level of realism in a setting that is the real world with some fantastical elements added. Superman and Wonder Woman have a reason for their abilities, Batman does not have a reason to be so strong.

First off, I don’t “prop” up anything, Donald Trump. The DCEU is “realistic”, especially in comparison to the MCU, because the DCEU deals with situations in a more realistic manner. There are real-life repercussions in the DCEU. People get killed, & it doesn’t get handled like a Comedy Hour. Just like in real life, people aren’t grinning like idiots all he time.

Batman is strong, for the same reason that the world’s strongest man is strong. Or how Usain Bolt (my fellow countryman!!) can outrun any human on the planet….because he works at it.

And just to further demonstrate that you don’t know what you’re talking about:

            https://youtu.be/SBFTB7Xjk3U

Does this man look like a tree, Carl? He’s hardly any bigger than Batman was in the movie.

Did the tire have a weight listed on it? Doesn’t matter anyway Batman does things he can’t in BvS. Remember when he was hiding in the corner of the walls and someone then crawled along the ceiling from there?

Oh, you mean how he used his line to propel him along, & UP the wall? Something we’ve seen him do a million times?

Why are you such an ignorant jerk? I’ve worked out plenty in my life so yeah I know how impossible those feats of strength are.

You’re lying, Carl. If you really worked out (as much as I do, since my occupation requires that I stay in as decent shape as possible), or even spent time in the “Big Boys Gyms”, then you’d know that there are guys who did what Batman did in their sleep.

The guy in the video pulled an airplane 100ft. Just because you look 6 months pregnant, with the spine of al-dente pasta, doesn’t mean that every other man in the world has the same incapacities that you possess.

Plus, for some who claims to be working on their “2nd Bachelors” (I think you’re lying about that as well; you have the syntax of a 4th grader), you don’t seem to know anything about human body mechanics.

I didn’t know that Batman was considered the greatest hero for being bulletproof… here I thought it was his detective skills, intelligence, gadgets and fighting skills… lol

See, this is the stupidity I’m talking about. You just mentioned his “gadgets & intelligence”, bit can’t seem to make the connection between that & how he would become bullet proof.

You do realize that Batman has been bulletproof for most of his career, yes?

Sure it’s WB’s fault for showing the scene in the trailer but now I find that to be a flaw for the movie because the scene lost impact for me. I say that because of how late in the movie it is and how sparse the action is. They gave as such a lengthy look at the best action scene in the movie making me expect more from the film.

LOL, you’re all over the place, Carl. You’re flailing about, trying to create a dozen straw men, none of which has anything to do with THIS SCENE. And even still, you end up calling it “the best action scene”.

          • Carl

Not reading this after you hurled insults again so early on. I’m tired of your denial and ignorance.

          • SAMURAI36

In the meantime, here’s a two dollar question for you…..
Did you find any flaws in Silly War, Carl?

          • Carl

            Never heard of that.

          • SAMURAI36

Don’t play dumb, Carlene. You know what I’m talking about. Avengers 2.5, aka CRAPtain America’s Silly War.

          • Carl

Nope never heard of that movie. Did it get great reviews from critics and audiences?

  • JNAZ

A little disappointed it’s not the joker.. but the thought of deathstroke batman battle is pretty damn awesome.

    • aaflo

maaaaaaybe Joker hires him, who’s to say?…lets be hopeful!

      • JNAZ

        True.. let’s hope indeed!

    • SAMURAI36

Yeah, who’s to say that Joker won’t be in it?

    • Peter James

The Joker is over-done, as far as Batman movies go.

We’ve seen the Nicholson version of it (visually, the best version), the Nolan/Ledger version of him (performance-wide the best version), and now the Ayer version of it (the most out-there version).

I’d say give the character a rest and mine from some of the other great Batman villains in the rogues gallery he has.

Deathstroke is a good starting point.

Down the road it would be great to see a Mr. Freeze done right and maybe also a Two-face/Harvey Dent also done right.

      • SAMURAI36

Both Joker and Deathstroke were in the Arkham game. No reason they can’t be in the movie.

      • SAMURAI36

What was wrong with Harvey from TDK?

        • Hinscher

Harvey was amazing in Dark Knight. Two Face was pathetic. They only did that character half justice.

          • SAMURAI36

Can’t say I agree, but okay.

  • SAMURAI36

This is MASSIVE news. Deathstroke is trending hard on Twitter right now.

  • flavortang

    YESSSSSSSSSSSS

  • SAMURAI36

This is why Deathstroke deserves his rightful place in the DCEU:

  • Drew Douglas

Joe Mangianello is in London rocking a very Slade-ish haircut. And he was rumored to be playing Deathstroke years ago.

  • Carl

Deathstroke sounds like a very good choice. Only the Nolan movies have given Batman a physical match as a villain and those haven’t had the weapons to match him.

I hope this debunks that Arkham Asylum based story rumor that was out there.

  • jollybrah

So his apparently in the Batman solo film but that footage was definitely shot in London presumably on the Justice League set, the Batmobile was in the background and people are saying that he was on the flying fox, not so far out of the question for a cameo by Deathstroke in JL?

  • rogbngp

I would love to see Ben Affleck begin shooting The Batman immediately after principle shooting wraps for JL. And here is the revised release schedule that I would like to see:

    Wonder Woman – June 2, 2017

    Justice League – November 17, 2017

    The Batman – March 16, 2018

    The Flash – July 27, 2018

    Man of Steel 2 – October 5, 2018

    Aquaman – April 5, 2019

Justice League: Part Two – June 14, 2019

    Shazam – November 1, 2019

    Cyborg – April 3, 2020

    Green Lantern Corps – June 19, 2020

    • SAMURAI36

Where would you put JLD, or SS2?

      • rogbngp

Either JLD and SS2 could get squeezed in in the fall of 2020. The other would have to wait for the next cycle 2021 – whenever.

If George Miller is indeed going to direct New Gods as has been rumored, and they want to fit that film in within the next three and a half years, then that could replace Cyborg or Shazam. But according to the schedule I proposed, if they wait until 2021 for that then Cyborg could still happen. (Miller would be 75 when he films New Gods then.) I will not be surprised if the shelve the Cyborg solo film, though.

Given that they have to make room in the release schedule to fit in MoS 2 over the next three years then personally I would prefer that they let go of Shazam. But given that WB reportedly wants to significantly lighten up the tone of the DCEU, and considering the massive star power of the Rock, I can see why they would go with Shazam over Cyborg. Following the DCEU’s more realism based approach, I would imagine that a solo Cyborg film would tend toward existential angst issues (namely: how does he hold onto his humanity when so much of him is machine?–and alien technology at that). Anyway, teaming up Cyborg with Flash to make him more fun makes sense with that overall plan.

        • SAMURAI36

I agree with most of what you’re saying. However, are you aware of the talk that Cyborg might get morphed into a full fledged Titans film?
I think I’d like to see JLD happen sooner, though. I can honestly wait on SS2. And Shazam being my fave character of all time, is the film I’m most excited for. Between Shazam, JLD, WW, & of course SS, DC will firmly establish magic as a very real part of their universe, as opposed to Marvel, who is just now doing that, & even with Dr. Strange, it still doesn’t look like magic per se.

I definitely wanna see a New Gods film. Have you heard the rumors of the Crime Syndicate movie? That sounds incredibly interesting as well.

          • rogbngp

Yeah, I just saw the article today about the rumors for what will be revealed tomorrow at the DC event. Not sure what to make of it, but I guess we’ll find out tomorrow. I could certainly see a Teen Titans movie being added to the mix, though. Have not heard about the Crime Syndicate film, but if you can post a link will be appreciated! Thx

          • SAMURAI36

I’m kinda skeptical about posting these “rumors” on sites like this. I hope you understand.

But I will say that the Crime Syndicate rumor is pretty recent. But if you follow the bread crumbs, you might already “read it”.

          • rogbngp

Lol, gotcha, will see if I can find it.
