Is Doctor Strange making his return in Avengers: Doomsday? Benedict Cumberbatch gives his first official statement about reprising his most iconic role.
Doctor Strange has been getting quite a bit of publicity this week. The character has been all-but-absent from the Marvel Universe in recent years, with Benedict Cumberbatch having not played the role since Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness back in 2022. The character isn’t even confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, despite the sequel’s post-credits scene teasing the sorcerer’s return in the multiverse saga.
This has led to a lot of speculation about what role Doctor Strange could play in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. The most popular rumor right now suggests that Benedict Cumberbatch could be reuniting with Robert Downey Jr. so his character can work alongside Doctor Doom. However, with no official confirmation of his return, everything is currently just speculation.
Is Doctor Strange In Avengers: Doomsday?
Fans finally have their first official word on if Doctor Strange will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. This comes straight from the mouth of Benedict Cumberbatch, who was asked if he would return during a recent interview with Variety. Sadly, it seems the Sorcerer Supreme isn’t going to be appearing on the big screen anytime soon.
“Is that a spoiler? F*** it!” Cumberbatch remarks after acknowledging he WON’T be in Avengers: Doomsday. “The character [was] not aligning with this part of the story,” then adding “He’s quite central to where things might go.”
It’s an almost undecipherable quote. However, it seems that Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t making a return as Doctor Strange in Avengers: Doomsday. Though, despite that, his character will be playing a key role in the end of the Multiverse Saga. Most likely, this means taking a starring role in Secret Wars, potentially being led up to by a third solo film.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
