Benedict Cumberbatch’s payday for the MCU’s upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been revealed.

After making his debut in Doctor Strange all the way back in 2016, Benedict Cumberbatch has returned as the good doctor several times in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, after nearly 6 years, Cumberbatch is set to set to headline his own sequel in next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Directed by Sam Raimi, the second film in the MCU franchise will also see Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda joining the Sorcerer Supreme on a mission through the chaotic multiverse.

The sequel will arrive fresh off the heels of the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will feature Doctor Strange in a pivotal role as he tries to close off the multiverse. It’s unclear how the Spider-Man threequel will feed into The Multiverse of Madness but one thing is for certain: Benedict Cumberbatch is walking out with a great payday.

Industry insider Matt Belloni revealed in his newsletter that Benedict Cumberbatch is set to receive $7.5 million upfront for appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The star will also receive additional box office bonuses as well, making his return to the MCU quite profitable. Cumberbatch was previously given $5.5 million for his solo debut. It’s unclear what Cumberbatch was paid for his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Benedict Cumberbatch will next be seen as Doctor Strange in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here is the synopsis:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film as well as Benedict Cumberbatch’s future as Doctor Strange in the MCU, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
