Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has nothing but praise for the recently released trailer for the Sam Raimi-directed Benedict Cumberbatch sequel.
After the success of the first Doctor Strange, Scott Derrickson was set to return as the director of the sequel: Multiverse of Madness. Due to various differences, Derrickson eventually bowed out of the director’s chair. This exit led to original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi stepping in to completely revamp the film. After a series of delays, notably due to COVID-19, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to debut later this summer.
Last week we got a brand new look at the Benedict Cumberbatch film and it looks absolutely bonkers. From live-action Marvel Zombies to Scarlet Witch potentially skating into the dark side, the sequel is set to be one of the studios’ most unique and trippy projects. From what we’ve seen, director Sam Raimi isn’t sacrificing Scott Derrickson’s unique visual flair that dominated the first film.
After the debut of the trailer, the original Doctor Strange director was naturally asked on Twitter what he thought about the sequel. Derrickson praised Sam Raimi and ensured that “all is good” regarding the apparent fallout he had with Marvel.
Here is the synopsis for Marvel Studios’ next film:
The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the upcoming movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022. Meanwhile, you can see the Sorcerer in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is currently playing in theaters now.
