How ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Could Explain Tom Holland’s Spider-Man MCU Exit

With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man leaving the MCU, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could explain how and why he’s not around anymore.

A new MCU theory has surfaced on Reddit that might provide an explanation for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man exit through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After the news recently hit that the Sony and Disney deal was coming to an end and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would no longer be a part of the MCU, fans have been scrambling to find an answer to how this will play out. But now that the multiverse and time travel are all key elements within the MCU, anything is possible, especially when Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is involved.

There are already plenty of theories floating around about the Doctor Strange sequel starring Benedict Cumberbatch, but this latest idea by Reddit user RusVir certainly provides an interesting escape route for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man out of the MCU. It focuses on Peter Parker and Aunt May going to see Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange for help following Spider-Man’s identity reveal at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. After Doctor Strange’s experience in the Multiverse of Madness, he finds them a universe where nearly everything is the same — except it doesn’t have a Peter Parker or a Spider-Man. Obviously, there’s still a world that needs protecting from the likes of Venom and Carnage, so Tom Holland’s role with Sony will continue.

Is this how you want to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man leave the MCU? Through a post-credit scene in Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Let us know your theories in the comments.

Meanwhile, Tom Holland was last seen as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Here’s the official synopsis:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, Numan Acar, J.B. Smoove, Oli Hill, Remy Hii, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
