Avengers: Doomsday is one of the most highly-anticipated projects the MCU has had in years. The project is set to be a true culmination of the multiverse saga, bringing together all of the characters and links that have been building up for the past half decade in a truly stunning display. However, it seems at least one hero won’t return: Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.
This news was broke by Variety in a recent chat with Benedict Cumberbatch. When asked about his future as Doctor Strange in the MCU, the actor let slip that he won’t be making an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. When pressed about the reason he won’t return, he simply stated that his character simply didn’t align with the story of the upcoming film.
When Will Doctor Strange Return In The MCU?
However, it seems that the MCU isn’t forgetting about Doctor Strange entirely. Benedict Cumberbatch also revealed that, even though he won’t be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, he’ll be making his grand return as the character in Avengers: Secret Wars. While he didn’t reveal much about his role, he did state that he would be in “a lot” of the project, suggesting he may have a starring role in what may be the biggest film in the franchise.
The reason for this separation is likely due to how many heroes both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars has to deal with. The projects are set to include dozens of heroes from both within and outside of the MCU.
