Benedict Cumberbatch recently touched on the relationship Doctor Strange has with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme will team up with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in an attempt to restore his secret identity in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The superhero paring first met in Avengers: Infinity War with No Way Home set to explore their MCU dynamic further. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Benedict Cumberbatch talked a little bit about Doctor Strange’s relationship with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man as two heroes based in New York City:

“There’s a close relationship. They’re neighborhood superheroes, and they’ve had an experience or two. They’ve got history. It might be the case that Peter asks me to help him do something? I think I’m allowed to say that much. I help him fill in his tax returns. That’s what I do.”

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, J.B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Tony Revolori and J.K. Simmons.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently set to be released on December 17, 2021, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released on March 25, 2022.
