Benedict Wong Says ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Could Start Filming Next Year

According to Avengers: Endgame star Benedict Wong, Doctor Strange 2 may start filming next year.

Avengers: Endgame featured many different Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Two that really stood out from the pack were Wong and Doctor Strange. The two essentially helped save the day by coming to the aid of the Avengers before they faced off against the Mad Titan Thanos. However, it has been almost three years since the two characters made their introduction to the MCU with the film Doctor Strange.

Fans and critics praised Doctor Strange for being different and bold, something that set the film apart from other MCU installments. While Wong and Doctor Strange Strange both made their debut in that movie, fans really fell in love with the characters thanks to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Now, fans can look forward to seeing Wong and Doctor Strange again soon. This past weekend, Benedict Wong was asked about the Doctor Strange sequel at Denver Pop Culture Con. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“I know they’ve now got a writer on board who I met at the Endgame premiere, so I think that may be happening some time next year.”

Currently, we still know very little about the film other than that original Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson will be back in the director’s chair. Derrickson has previously said he would like to use the Marvel character Nightmare as one of the villains for the sequel. Additionally, Derrickson has also talked about possibly introducing fan-favorite comic book characters Jericho Drumm and Clea.

With no official word, it seems that Doctor Strange 2 will remain a mystery until Marvel Studios reveals its Phase 4 lineup. Many fans are expecting the studio’s lineup to be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con or Disney’s D23 Expo. Are you excited for Doctor Strange 2?
