‘Birds Of Prey’ Writer Talks Working With Margot Robbie On The DC Film

DC Birds of Prey Margot Robbie Barbie

During an interview with Collider, Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson discussed her experience working with Margot Robbie on the upcoming DC film.

Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the Birds of Prey film, though this time the actress will also serve as a producer on the DC project. While reflecting on her experience working with Robbie on Birds of Prey, screenwriter Christina Hodson discussed how they both did extensive research on Harley Quinn and other DC characters who will appear in the film:

“That whole process has been amazing because Margot is a producer on the project, so she and I have been working on this, very much hand-in-hand, since day one, about three years ago. We get to do a deep, deep dive. I did a deep dive on the character, in reading the comics. And then, the studio has been incredibly supportive and great about giving us free rein to explore new things. I did the same with all of the characters. I did a huge amount of research and all of the reading, but then liberated myself a little bit and felt free to dive deeper and make these characters something new and fresh that people haven’t necessarily seen.”

Full details on the Birds of Prey plot are currently unknown, though the film will center on Huntress, Black Canary, and Harley Quinn joining forces to protect Cassandra Cain when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan, McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
