Rosie Perez says that she is ready for Renee Montoya to suit up as The Question after Birds of Prey.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) introduces Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya in the DC Extended Universe. Renee Montoya is an important part of Batman and Birds of Prey mythos and even suits up as an iconic DC Comics character known as The Question in the comics. So, when someone of Rosie Perez’s gravitas was cast as Renee Montoya, it was expected that she would transform into The Question in a future DCEU film.
We recently had the chance to sit down with Rosie Perez, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and got the dish on what they expect to come from the DCEU. While Smollett-Bell and Winstead had some ideas, Rosie Perez seemed keen on becoming The Question. Here’s what Rosie Perez had to say about Renee Montoya suiting up as The Question.
“Oh, hell yeah. That would be amazing. I think that being of a certain age I could bring a lot of gravitas to that. Once she becomes The Question, it seems that all of the childhood trauma that she’s still holding on to and the anger from it of being betrayed, outed and passed over with that mask that she puts on…. she’s able to just break free and be fearless. She’s fearless already, but it would be a heightened level. That would be amazing.”

Here is the official synopsis for Birds of Prey:
“You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding Rosie Perez, Renee Montoya, The Question and the future of the DC Extended Universe.
