Early box office tracking has been revealed for Black Adam, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Avatar: The Way of the Water.
2022 is almost over, but the final months will feature some major releases from Warner Bros. and Disney. For Warner Bros., they have Dwyane Johnson’s long-awaited Black Adam, which will be released in October, where the studio has had lots of success in the past.
Disney has two major sequels in the pipeline, with the first being Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will be without its star, Chadwick Boseman. The other is Avatar: The Way of Water, a film in production for over a decade and following up the most successful of all-time.
Will Top Gun: Maverick Be Dethroned?
Variety recently teamed up with Cinelytic to predict how these major tentpoles will fare at the domestic box office in Q4. Black Adam is projected to make $328 million, while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to earn $423 million. Avatar: The Way of the Water is poised to make more than both, with $650 million. Based on these estimates, Top Gun: Maverick will remain king of the 2022 box office with over $700 million.
