James Cameron’s Avatar earned $10 million through its re-release at the domestic box office.

In preparation for the upcoming sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron‘s original 2009 film was re-released to theaters for a special two-week engagement to immerse audiences back into the world of Pandora. The film was remastered in 4K high-dynamic range. This weekend, the film hit third place grossing $10 million, adding more to its lifetime tallies as the highest-grossing film of all-time at the global box office.

Placing at the top two spots of James Cameron’s Avatar re-release is Warner Bros. Pictures’ new release, Don’t Worry Darling, which is the sophomore film of director Olivia Wilde and stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. The film grossed $19.2 million amidst behind-the-scenes controversies regarding the film’s talent. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures’ The Woman King from director Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Academy Award-winner Viola Davis earned $11.1 million in its second weekend, dropping only 40% from its debut last week.

Avatar is back.

Although Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all-time at the global box office, online chatter regarding James Cameron’s film is often polarizing, with countless posts from accounts that claim that a film that grossed $2.8 billion worldwide has “left no cultural impact” since its release. However, this re-release into theaters once again showcases that audiences are in fact excited to return to Pandora, which will certainly bode well for The Way of Water when it hits theaters just in time for Christmas.

Here is the synopsis for Avatar: The Way of Water:
