New details of Black Adam‘s villain, Marwan Kenzari’s Sabbac, have been revealed in a description for an action figure of the character.
Sabbac is a demonic villain who has had many alternate identities over the course of DC’s comic continuity. So far, little has been revealed of how he will be portrayed in Black Adam with the film’s promotional material mainly focusing on Dwayne Johnson’s Teth-Adam and the Justice Society of America.
The new description offers some insight into which comic book versions of Sabbac have influenced his live-action portrayal in DC’s Black Adam.
Sabbac Vs. Black Adam & The JSA
The version of Sabbac being played by Aladdin star Marwan Kenzari in Black Adam appears to be an amalgam of at least a couple of versions of the character from the DC comics.
The action figure description also reveals that Black Adam‘s Sabbac will be taking on both Dwayne Johnson’s Teth-Adam and the JSA. He is said to be as powerful as Black Adam and it looks like the magically powered antihero will need to join forces with the Justice Society heroes in order to overpower Sabbac.
The description reads:
“Possessed by a demon, a military Intergang leader transforms into Sabbac, the only being whose powers are equal to those of Black Adam. Determined to take over Kahndaq and maybe the whole world, Sabbac must be stopped, and the fiercely autonomous Black Adam may need the help of some unlikely allies to outmatch him.”
Black Adam‘s version of Sabbac seems to draw upon the Ishmael Gregor version of the character – a ruthless crime boss possessed by Sabbac – and Sabbac’s reimagined New 52 incarnation. Interestingly, in the New 52 comics, Sabbac actually joined forces with Black Adam.
It is not yet known whether Black Adam will end this film on a more villainous or heroic path and so there may even be potential for him to change sides at the last minute and join forces with Sabbac against the JSA.
In the comics, Black Adam and Sabbac were overpowered by Shazam and the Shazam Family. However, there has been no word from DC yet on when Zachary Levi’s Shazam and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam might cross paths on the big screen.
Here is the synopsis for Black Adam:
“Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.”
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
