Tracking estimates are in, and according to the Hollywood trades, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam is currently tracking to be the biggest opening of The Rock’s film career.

Tracking estimates have the superhero movie set to open between $70-75 million.

If the tracking holds, then Black Adam would be The Rock’s biggest launch outside the Fast & Furious franchise. Hobbs and Shaw opened back in August of 2019 to $60 million at the domestic box office. The film would go to gross $760.3 million worldwide.

If word of mouth on Black Adam is positive, then the film could perhaps open similar to what the Venom: Let There Be Carnage movie did at $80 million domestic, and top out at $213.5 million.

The future of the DC franchise is unclear at the moment following the formation of Warner Bros. Discovery. CEO David Zaslav recently teased a ten-year plan for DC and along with a “reset” that is inspired by what Kevin Feige has done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Warner Bros. also axed Batgirl with more changes expected.

The future of DC Films

Black Adam is the next project up from DC, which David Zaslav shared his confidence in along with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash. Dwayne Johnson has been hyping up Black Adam’s inclusion in the DC Universe for some time now, and he might play a pivotal role in the franchise moving forward.

Here is the synopsis for Black Adam:

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
