At D23 over the weekend, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige teased The Eternals star Kit Harington’s MCU future as Black Knight.

The day before the Walt Disney D23 presentation, news broke that the Game of Thrones star would be joining the MCU. This caused a ton of speculation on the web on who Kit Harington could be playing before the announcement from Kevin Feige. Names like Moon Knight and Wolverine were thrown around, but it was later confirmed by Kevin Feige that Kit Harington will be playing Black Knight in The Eternals.

Kit Harington joining the MCU as Black Knight in The Eternals came as a shock to many and means a lot. For one, Kit Harington will be reuniting with Game of Thrones star Richard Madden in the film. At D23, Kevin Feige spoke to ABC’s Good Morning America about Kit Harington’s future as Black Knight in the MCU:

“He’s a really amazing actor, and this part came up in The Eternals film that we’re doing. We were so happy when he agreed to join, and it is a part that could perhaps grow into something else in the future.”

In the comics, the Eternals are a fictional evolutionary offshoot of humanity who possess superpowers and longer lifespans than normal humans. Created by the Celestials over a million years ago, the superpowered beings were the result of genetic experiments that led to the creation of two divergent races: The Eternals and The Deviants.

Often defending Earth from their monstrous counterparts, the Eternals became embroiled in a civil war amongst themselves over whether or not they should conquer the other races. One faction was led by Kronos and the other by his warlike brother named Uranos, with Kronos’ side ultimately winning the conflict while Uranos and his followers were exiled.

Directed by Chloé Zhao from a script written by Matthew K. Firpo & Ryan Firpo, Marvel Studios’ The Eternals stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, and Barry Keoghan.

Black Knight will make his MCU debut in The Eternals, which will be released in theaters on November 6, 2020.
