Disney has pushed back the release dates of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

With a huge chunk of theaters still closed due to the ongoing pandemic, Disney has announced that it has decided to delay the release of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow by two months. The highly-anticipated Marvel Studios movie is now slated to hit theaters on July 9th. It will be available on Disney Plus on the same day through the company’s Premier Access platform.

Meanwhile, Disney has also moved Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to September 3, 2021. The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film was previously scheduled to open in theaters on July 9, 2021.

In a statement, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution Chairman Kareem Daniel explained the reasoning behind the shifts and Black Widow‘s Disney Plus release:

“Today’s announcement reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences. By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic marketplace that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to employ the best options to deliver The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families around the world.”
