Is Blade officially cooked? The reboot is said to be on the backburner alongside Deadpool 4 as Marvel focuses their priority on the Avengers.
It’s clear that Marvel is finally taking a step back and a deep breath in. After an absolute onslaught of content on both the silver screen and Disney Plus, the franchise is on a long-hiatus. Only two films are due out next year, with Spider-Man 4 in July and Avengers: Doomsday in December. This has left many to wonder where ugly ducklings like Blade and the long-speculated Deadpool 4 may fit into their current slate.
The answer may sadden the fans of Marvel’s R-Rated offerings. The latest report from Variety reveals that both the Blade reboot and Deadpool 4 remain “low priorities” for the studio ahead of the Avengers duology meant to cap off the multiverse saga. This likely means, unless plans change, these projects likely aren’t due out until 2028 or later.
The State Of Marvel’s R-Rated Projects
Out of the two films, Deadpool 4 is the least shocking one to be placed on the wayside. Even though Marvel made a billion off Deadpool and Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds has publicly spoken about taking a break from the character. And with the actor likely reprising his role in both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, that break likely won’t start until late until 2027, if not 2028.
As for the Blade reboot, rumors did recently begin to circulate that Marvel wanted to start filming at the start of next year. However, given they likely need to move straight into production on Secret Wars after Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters, it’s not clear how available Kevin Feige would be to babysit such a troublesome project during production.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
