Is Blade finally back on track? Kevin Feige confirms the reboot has a new writer as details about the troubled production finally come to light.
It’s likely no secret to anyone reading this that Blade has been going through some troubles. kevin Feige has churned through writer after writer in an attempt to get a solid story for the reboot. Now, over half a decade since the project was initially announced, fans are no closer to seeing the iconic Daywalker make his return to the silver screen.
Yet it seems, however little, progress is being made. Kevin Feige recently spoke on the troubles of the Blade reboot with Variety. It seems as though the biggest hold-up when it comes to the production was finding the right writer. The Marvel president didn’t want to make something that was simply a solid blockbuster, he wanted something “insanely great”.
“We didn’t want to simply just put a leather outfit on [Ali] and have him start killing vampires. It had to be unique and it fell right into the time when we started pulling back and saying ‘only accept insanely great’ and it wasn’t insanely great at the time.”
“And we didn’t feel like, as we often do, you can start and have a good script and make it a great script through production. We didn’t feel confident that we could that on ‘Blade’ and didn’t want to do that to Mahershala and do want to do that to us.”
Blade Finally Has Its Reboot Writer
Luckily, Kevin Feige may have finally found a writer to match his standards. The report reveals that Eric Pearson, who had previously worked on projects such as Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is officially attached as the latest writer for Blade. The president also revealed some interesting details about the reboot, such as cementing it in the modern day.
“There were three or four [versions of the script], two that were period two that are not. We’ve landed on modern day and that’s what we’re focusing on.”
It’s interesting to hear that nearly half of the attempts at the Blade reboot were focused on making it a period piece. It’s unclear which writer helmed those incarnations of the script. However, it does seem as though Kevin Feige wasn’t exactly satisfied with the historical aspect of the projects. Here’s to hoping that the newest take set in the modern day is, finally, one he’s willing to settle on!
