‘Blue Beetle’ New Clip Teases Surprise DC Comics Villain

A surprise Justice League connection!

Xolo Mariduena Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle DC Universe

Blue Beetle is set to introduce fans to a brand new DC Universe as Jaime Reyes faces off against Conrad Carapax. However, a new clip teases another DC comics villain may be present in the film.

Jaime Reyes has his hands full in his first feature film. Not only does he have to learn how to control the Scarab on his back, but he needs to face both the evil business woman Victoria Kord and the dangerous contract killer Conrad Carapax. A new clip adds more to Jaime’s plate, teasing the appearance of the classic DC comics villain OMAC:

There are two versions of OMAC in the comics that could appear in Blue Beetle. The first is Buddy Blank, an office worker who uses Brother Eye’s satellite to turn into a member of the One-Man Army Corps. Given Conrad Carapax is already fills the role of a powerhouse to fight Jaime Reyes, the more likely option is a variation of the O.M.A.C. virus, which turns people into sentient drones. These drones would likely be fully artificial in the movie and controlled by Victoria Kord instead of Brother Eye. Though all of that is speculation, and fans could see a brand new form of OMAC in the DC Universe.

Who is DC’s Blue Beetle?

Blue Beetle is one of DC’s lesser-known heroes, but he has a dedicated fanbase nonetheless. Created in 1939 by Charles Wojtkowski, Blue Beetle has gone through several iterations over the years. The Jaime Reyes version of the character was introduced during the events of 2006’s Infinite Crisis and quickly became a fan-favorite.

In the pages of DC Comics, Jaime Reyes is a teenager from El Paso, Texas. Jaime discovers a scarab beetle-shaped device that bonds with his body, giving him access to an advanced suit of armor and various powers. He becomes the latest in a long line of Blue Beetles and must learn to balance his newfound abilities with his everyday life.

Angel Manuel Soto is directing Blue Beetle from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The full cast of the movie also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon and Harvey Guillén.

Blue Beetle is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 18, 2023. Stay tuned for the latest news surrounding the film.
